Keep your smile beautiful with routine teeth cleanings

At Albrecht Family Dentistry in West Bend, Wisconsin, we know how important it is to have a beautiful, healthy smile. A great smile can increase your confidence and self-esteem and improve first impressions. The basis of a gorgeous smile is good oral hygiene and routine visits with the dentist. We recommend professional teeth cleanings to all our patients who wish to keep their smiles looking and functioning great.

What is teeth cleaning?

While brushing and flossing at home every day is extremely important, it is not 100% effective at eliminating plaque and tartar. Even the most careful brushing can still leave areas susceptible to tooth decay or gum disease. To prevent cavities or periodontal disease, we encourage all patients to schedule twice-yearly appointments for a comprehensive exam and cleaning of all teeth surfaces.

How often should I schedule dental cleanings?

We recommend that all patients come to the office every six months for a visit. During these visits, we will take x-rays, look for any areas of concern, and provide a thorough cleaning.

We will remove any tartar accumulation from your teeth above and below the gum line during the dental cleaning. The more tartar there is, the more time it will take to remove it from a particular tooth.

Once the tartar is removed, we use gritty toothpaste and a high-powered electric toothbrush to get a good deep clean. Following tartar removal, we will floss between each tooth, looking for potential problem spots where the gums may bleed. The final step in the cleaning process is to polish the teeth and rinse out any debris.

If the dentist notices any signs of gum disease, we may recommend a procedure known as scaling and root planing to further eliminate tartar and bacteria.

Individuals with a history of gum disease may need to come to the dentist more often for teeth cleaning and monitoring to prevent the condition from worsening.

There is no substitute for preventative care

The best thing you can do to keep your mouth healthy is to brush and floss routinely, eat a healthy diet, and visit the dentist regularly. You can reduce your risk of developing cavities or gum disease by being proactive.
