Tooth-colored fillings provide amazing benefits when compared to unsightly metal Amalgam fillings

Do you have a cavity that needs filling? How about an old silver metal amalgam filling that you would like replaced with a more cosmetically appealing option? If your answer to either of these questions is yes, consider tooth-colored fillings from Dr. James (Jim) Albrecht and the team here at Albrecht Dentistry in West Bend, Wisconsin, for a discreet and attractive option.

The filling is made from a strong and natural-looking composite resin. This type of filling provides a natural, attractive look and is not at all noticeable to others. Not only are they visually appealing, but composite fillings are also strong and because they are bonded to your tooth they restore strength to the tooth that non-bonded silver fillings do not.

Tooth-colored vs. amalgam

Your teeth are wonderfully designed by nature and can withstand the stresses placed on them by chewing. Preparing a tooth for even a small filling can disrupt the integrity of the tooth, leading to cracks and eventually breakage of the tooth. Silver fillings do not restore the integrity of the tooth because the silver filling basically “sits in the hole”. Tooth colored composite fillings are bonded to the tooth, helping to restore the integrity of the tooth and reduce the chance of cracking and breakage. Our team at Albrecht Dentistry uses tooth-colored fillings to restore your dental health so that you can have a healthy and beautiful smile.

Using tooth-colored fillings

Composite resin fillings are predominantly used to fill cavities, filling areas where decay has been removed, and the tooth cleaned. However, due to the versatility of composite resin, it can also be used for other issues. These include fixing small cracks or building up enamel worn down due to grinding. Because the material is tooth-colored, it can be used for treating any area in the front or back teeth.

What to expect

Thanks to the evolution of dental treatments, receiving a tooth-colored filling at Albrecht Dentistry is fairly simple and easy. When you come in for your appointment, one of our team will direct you to a treatment chair where you will be laid back, and the area of the mouth being worked will be numbed using a local anesthetic. This ensures you remain comfortable while we treat your tooth. Once you are numb, the tooth will be worked on, any decay removed, and the tooth cleaned. The composite resin filling material will then be applied to fill the cavity and hardened using a special light. The filling will then be polished to feel smooth and blend in with surrounding teeth.
